Valentine Cinquain/Love is...

Here are some cute Valentine Cinquains we did this week! I let the kids choose a word that related to Valentine's Day for their topic....(chocolate, cards, Cupid, hearts, love, etc.)

A Cinguain is one of the easiest poems to have your kids write...only 5 lines...

1. Topic ( Ice cream)
2. 2 Adjectives ( smooth, delicious)
3. 3 verbs ending in "ing" ( eating, enjoying, tasting)
4. 4 letter phrase (in a waffle cone)
5. Synonym for topic or noun ( dessert)

We also wrote paragraphs on "Love is.." We have a 5 step paragraph that we teach as part of our curriculum so we followed those rules...

Both of these projects will go in their 2nd grade portfolio :)

Happy February!

Valentine Wreath!

This isn't really school related, but I wanted to share :) This week I have had the itch. Those of you crafty gals out there know what I'm talking about. The itch that that doesn't leave your mind/body until you CRAFT it out. I know i'm a bit early for Valentine's Day, but I just couldn't wait any longer. I found an adorable wreath while searching the web for ideas and headed straight to JoAnn after school yesterday. I spent a whole TEN bucks for all the material to make TWO wreaths! WOOT!

Here is my little love filled creation that will hang by our front door!

I cut strips of material and tulle about 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. I also found a wire hanger and bent it into the shape of a heart. Tie a single knot with the material strips and pop in a movie. You'll be done in no time!

Rudolph Ornaments....EASY and ADORABLE

I LOVE a good holiday project to make with my kids and thanks to Pinterest I found an adorable one! Not to mention, it was EASY.....no cutting, getting crazy with glue, kids begging to wash hands, can you help me whines or I can't do this Mrs. Slayton!!! NONE of that! It was painless and I got to use my hot glue gun. I love a good hot glue gun project.

Okay, so here it is! All you need are plastic ornaments (glass could be a bit risky), pipe cleaners, google eyes, red pom poms and red shredded paper. I had the kids use their pencils (eraser side) and push the paper down into the ornament. It worked great.

Happy December!
